We have been scurrying to get things in order at home before this baby comes - 33 days but who is counting? Only rational people would tear up all their floors and start installing new ones themselves a month before due date, right? Well, it seemed like a good idea at the beginning and all in all, it is coming together beautifully. I will get around to pictures this weekend.
J finished the formal living/dining all by himself and had his friend, Adam, help with the kitchen/breakfast nook. This room has needed some TLC since we moved in and found it in a state of peptobismol pink countertops, laminate everything and floral linoleum flooring. Slowly, we have started the most cost efficient updates because our ultimate goal is to tear it all out in a few years and start from scratch. We quickly replaced the pink countertops with granite, had the cabinets painted and now have new floors!
One of the projects J wanted to tackle was putting up beadboard in the breakfast nook. It already had a chair rail of sorts (if you could call it that - not quite as decorative as one would like) so really it was just replacing what was already there. This nook leads into our laundry room which can be a bit noisy if the washer/dryer are going while we are eating. Thankfully, there is a pocket door leading into this room so it is easily shut off and we can't hear a thing. Until recently.
The door started sticking just a few weeks ago and neither of us could get it to budge. We looked under the door to see if something was wedged underneath but just couldn't figure out why it was sticking. Last night, after being frustrated that it still wouldn't close - I said I was going to call the family handy man to come look at it over the weekend. J went to examine the door again and burst out laughing. After several minutes of refusing to reveal his faux pas, he finally showed me what was wrong.
In all his infinite construction wisdom, (love you, Honey), he used long nails to nail up the bead board and nailed right into the pocket door...nailing it open! So down came the new baseboards, chair rail and bead board in order to pry the nails from the door. Luckily, we had not caulked and painted everything yet -- looks like we will be adding some touch up paint to that door, as well.

| Refusing to look at me and getting mad that I would take pictures of this moment, he'll thank me one day |
