April 5 brought quite a surprise to us and a month early! After debating for a few hours on whether or not I was feeling real contractions, we decided it is better to be safe than sorry, so we headed to the hospital.
After getting checked in around 2:30 am - the nurse found that I was 2-3 cm dilated and thinning. Our doctor gave them orders to monitor us for another hour or so to see how I progressed. The contractions were registering on the machine at about 3 minutes apart. Since our doctor would be making rounds early that morning, he said to stay put until he could come by to evaluate us. Over the next few hours, the contractions became more intense and before we saw the doctor - the nurse checked one more time for progress.
Much to our surprise, I was fully dilated, ready to push and too late for an epidural! Not at all how our "birth plan" was supposed to go. God certainly has a sense of humor. I was terrified. Jeff was an amazing coach and kept me focused as we waited for the doctor. When he (finally) arrived, I pushed one good time and she was out! What a blessing. Words just can't describe the whole experience but we are so in love and can't wait for this next chapter of our lives.
